Full Description

RCAHMS Canmore description:
Reconnaissance survey carried out with the aim of identifying evidence for Norse settlement in Northern Argyll. It was targeted at a number of locations with surviving Old Norse placenames. The aim was to locate archaeological remains that could go back to the medieval period and to generate discussion of this evidence. The locations selected for systematic survey were those with very little known archaeology. In addition a number of sites were identified from the RCAHMS database as potentially relevant.
Laga 6 NM 63220 61737 on the W side of Allt Mor with approximate dimensions of 12 x 10m. A stony area on the N side of the platform may indicate the presence of structural remains.
A Bankier and S Digney 2007 <1>

This site was noted as a possible hut circle by WCAS during a 2011 DBA and walkover survey in advance of a woodland creation scheme. It was located on a prominent knoll under bracken, grass and heather and measured 9-10m diameter internal, with no visible entrance. The stone or turf walls were spread to 1.2m wide. The walls survived best on the south side, up to 1.2m high. <2>
