Full Description

In 2009 Forestry Commission Scotland commissioned C Shepherd to undertake a survey and assessment of those parts of the 18th century Military Road network crossing the National Forest Estate in Inverness, Ross & Skye, Lochaber and North Highland Forest Districts.
During the survey of Corrychurrachan a trackway, heading NE from this point, was recorded. It appeared to be the Military Road which came to replace the section over the Lairig Mhor and reflected an earlier route noted by Roy. The north sections noted on the Forestry Commision plan might have been wrong and Roy’s plan suggests a more direct route, as persisting in the modern Forestry Commision road. At the northernmost end, however, the original route appeared to diverge westwards to a ford as the Forestry Commision track climbed (see MHG59826). <1>
