Full Description

NG25NW 9 242 594.

The crofting township of Lower Halistra was created during the first half of the 19th century and may be identified as that block of land lying to the SW of the Trumpan road and NW of the Allt na Claise Moire. From the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Island of Skye &c., Inverness-shire 1880,sheet ix) it is evident that it was bounded to the NW by a wall, which ran from NG 2433 5985 to the sea at NG 2379 5942.
In the 20th century a new set of crofts was added to the NW of this wall, most of which are still occupied, but one group of buildings (some of them roofed at the time of the 1st edition (op.cit.)), in a croft immediately beyond the wall have been abandoned and are included in this record (see 9.08).
