Full Description
A Still Bothy is hidden away in a steep sided valley to the west of Loch Dubh, Ardroe. There is a cliff to the north and the bothy lies on a small platform with a burn to the south. Immediately to the east the burn falls over rapids through a small gorge before levelling and widening for a few metres and then descending rapidly over several falls into Loch Dubh. The bothy is an irregular, rounded rectangle with an internal length W - E of 5m. Its western end is approx 2.5m wide but narrows at the east end to a little over 2m. The W and S walls stand 0.3m high and consist of large boulders whereas the north wall is built directly against the cliff and the east wall is recessed into rising ground. There is an entrance (A) directly onto the burn and two long stones placed in the burn appear to have served as a bridge. In the slightly higher north east corner is a built up circle of stones surrounding a hollow and this hearth-like feature stands within a small, low, rectangular enclosure made of small stones and earth which barely rise above the grassed over floor surface. In the lower south west corner is a hollowed out, roughly circular depression surrounded on the north and east with a series of small edging stones. <1>
