Date

Dec 1998

Description

A programme of excavation following a geophysical survey (See EHG4907) was carried out by the Centre for Field Archaeology in December 1998 on the site of a proposed development on the south-western slope of Dooket Hill Auldearn. The work was commissioned by the Highland Council and carried out in consultation with Highland Council Archaeology Service. The objectives of the archaeological evaluation were: to identify the nature and extent of any archaeological remains which may exist within the evaluation area; to propose arrangements for the safeguarding where possible and recording where necessary of any archaeological features or finds identified; to ensure that the needs for archaeological conservation and recording are met without causing any unnecessary delay or disturbance to the development project. <1>
