EHG1090 - Walkover survey - proposed Kilbraur Windfarm
Technique(s)
Organisation
Headland Archaeology Ltd
Date
Dec 2003
Description
An additional walkover survey was carried out by Headland Archaeology in December 2003 in advance of a proposed wind farm development near Strath Brora, Sutherland, following determination of the final site layout (see EHG4336 for the previous survey). Twenty-two sites of cultural heritage significance were identified within the site boundary. This included: ten groups of prehistoric hut circles and / or their associated cultivation remains; a possible burnt mound or prehistoric 'cooking site' and eleven sites associate with post-medieval settlements. A careful redesign of the turbine sites was suggested to help avoid impacting on any archaeological sites. <1>
