EHG1095 - Walkover survey - Baravanish, Duntelchaig
Technique(s)
Organisation
Alba Archaeology Ltd
Date
Sept 2010
Description
An informal walkover survey was carried out during a site meeting by Alba Archaeology (Highland) and the Highland Council in September 2010 following the removal of thick gorse at a proposed development suite at Baravanish, Duntelchaig. The gorse covered part of the development site, and this was removed without archaeological supervision in August 2010 after a request from HCAU. Three unknown features were noted. These included a) a putative low sub-circular feature (later called a ‘prehistoric (?) bank’) at NH 6251 3296, b) a robbed field boundary wall at NH 6253 3297, and c) a possible burnt mound or clearance cairn at NH 6250 3300. Both (a) and (b) were within the area of the development, while (c) lay by the access road, out with the development area in an area of ground not owned by the developer. <1>
