Technique(s)

Organisation

Clyne Heritage Society

Date

June 2004

Description

An archaeological survey was carried out by Clyne Heritage Society and Shorewatch in June 2004 in order to assess the archaeological remains at the old salt pans on Brora Back Beach, Clyne, Sutherland. The remains of a substantial stone wall measuring over 30m in length was uncovered although most of the upstanding structure had collapsed. A well-constructed doorway made from finely dressed bevelled sandstone blocks was still evident with door jambs. Additional funding was applied for at this stage to allow for further exploratory work at the salt pans site. <1> Note: NGR supplied in the report for the location of the wall is completely wrong.
