EHG166 - Trial trenching - Coishletter, Edinbane
Technique(s)
Organisation
AOC Archaeology Group
Date
Late November 1999
Description
An archaeological evaluation of a proposed residential, industrial and tourist development on farmland to the west of Coishletter, Edinbane, Isle of Skye, was commissioned by Ewen Fillies Builders. The aim of the evaluation was to assess the archaeological deposits within the development area. The evaluation works were designed to assess the nature, extent and condition of the archaeological remains present, and hence allow effective mitigation. The field evaluation was comprised of two elements. Firstly, the excavation by mechanical excavator of a series of trial trenches across the development area. Secondly, an appraisal of the archaeological monuments present within the development area, as defined by the desk-based assessment and the walkover survey (see EHG4908), required the hand excavation of a number of small slot trenches. <1>
