Description

An Archaeological Survey of a proposed Native Pine wood plantation on Wester Guisachan Estate was commissioned by Tilhill Forestry. The Regional Archaeologist had identified this as an area of likely archaeological interest and recommended that a rapid walk-over survey be carried out. The purpose of this survey was to identify the presence or absence of archaeological sites and to comment on the human influences on the landscape in this area. It was not intended to be a definitive mapping of all archaeological features in this area. An initial historical and cartographic study was carried out in Inverness Library. This was followed by a field examination that totalled 21/2 days. This was carried out in cold snowy conditions. Brief descriptions were taken of all the sites examined. Photographs were also taken to help locate the sites through the snowy weather and the slight form of most of the surviving remains did not make them suitable for reproduction. <1>
