EHG245 - Watching brief - proposed retail development, Dellfield, Inshes

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by the Centre for Field Archaeology (CFA) in 1998-9 during the construction of a retail park at Dellfield, Inshes, Inverness. The watching brief was commissioned in response to an earlier evaluation and geophysical survey conducted by CFA in May 1998 (see EHG214 and EHG6613), which revealed the remains of 2 possibly-prehistoric pits. The work was carried out over 12 days in the months of October 1998, November 1998, February 1999 and June 1999. Seven features were located within the topsoiled area which comprised six pits and a silty spread. Many of the features appeared to be modern in origin and none of the features contained any artefacts. It was recommended that no further field work on this project was required and no post-excavation work was required. <1>
