EHG2897 - Watching brief - proposed new house, Coirshellach, Bonar Bridge

Technique(s)

Organisation

Stuart Farrell

Date

June-July 2005

Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by S Farrell in 2005 at Coirshellach, above Bonar Bridge during initial groundworks for a new house and associated services, including a septic tank outfall and electricity supply. Prior survey work by the author had found a previously unrecorded hut circle adjacent to the two known hut circles (see EHG1327). The watching brief revealed no archaeological deposits or features, with only natural ground of a orange-brown sandy gravel and outcrops of granite bedrock. The depth of peat across the house plot varied from a maximum of 600mm to an average depth of 300mm. Within the exposed sections of peat there was no evidence of any buried land surfaces. No recommendations for further archaeological work were made. <1>
