Full Description
A field system to the southeast of Lydsurach. (See MHG10051 and MHG63727 for the two hut circles as originally recorded. A third was also found later - see MHG63728)
NH69NW 2 6151 9526 and 6153 9523.
Within a small contemporary field system marked by stone clearance heaps and some lynchets, are two hut circles, 'A' and 'B' respectively.
'A' measures 10.5m diameter between wall centres and has an entrance gap in SE.
'B' measures 11.5m diameter between wall centres and has an entrance gap in SSE.
Both huts are set into a SE slope.
Surveyed at 1:2500. Visited by OS (J M) 10 June 1975.
No change Visited by OS (J M) 8 September 1980.
The site was visited during a walkover survey undertaken by S Farrell in 2005 in advance of the construction of a new house and associated services. No trace of the field system and clearance heaps as previously noted was seen, there were a few mounds close to the hut circles but all looked natural. Part of the area had seen use for recent peat cutting. No trace of the field system was seen in the subsequent watching brief. <1>
Mounds are visible in SEPA LiDAR data mostly in the area to the southeast of the hut circles. <2>
