EHG2924 - Desk-based assessment and walkover survey, Braes Water Main, Portree
Technique(s)
Organisation
Jacobs Engineering UK Ltd
Date
August to November 2007
Description
The survey undertaken between 13 August–23 November 2007 identified a total of 26 sites in a 100m corridor along the proposed route of the replacement water mains. It identified that the section of the pipeline from Peinmore to Camastianavaig would pass through an area of high archaeological sensitivity indicated by the remains of a prehistoric settlement, a possible soutterain and post-medieval field systems. A watching brief was recommended to mitigate against potential damage to the post medieval features mentioned above, and it was recommended that the known prehistoric remains (hut circles) be located, identified and fenced off to avoid any damage during the works. <3>
