EHG3088 - Archaeological evaluation at Holm Mains Farm, Inverness (Phase 2)

Technique(s)

Organisation

Headland Archaeology Ltd

Date

August 2000

Description

Further evaluations at Holm Mains Farm were undertaken by Headland Archaeology in August 2000. Work took place in Areas S and Z where archaeological features had been identified in the earlier trial trenching (see EHG3). No additional features of archaeological significance were found in Area S. An area totalling 875 sq m was excavated around the linear feature in Area Z exposing what appeared to be the return of a ditched enclosure of unknown, but possibly prehistoric or medieval, date. No secure dating evidence was recovered from either of the stone-filled pits that had previously been identified. Further excavations were recommended. <1>
