Technique(s)

Organisation

Headland Archaeology Ltd

Date

May-Sept 2007

Description

An archaeological watching brief took place which consisted of monitoring excavations for construction of the access track, turbine bases, batching plant and an earth grid around the sub-station. From the latter area were recovered trees preserved beneath the peat which were examined and recorded in detail. No archaeological features or artefacts were identified. This phase also included monitoring of the peat stripping at the borrow pit. During this work 18 cairns and a linear bank were recorded with excavation of some being necessary. The cairns proved to be simple field clearance cairns associated with the prehistoric settlement to the north east. <1>
