EHG3217 - Watching brief, Balloan Cottages, Inverness

A watching brief was conducted during the excavation of a trench for a new 33kV underground electricity cable. This was a condition of scheduled monument consent and was intended to mitigate any damage to the surviving archaeological remains. No features or deposits of archaeological significance were encountered and no artefacts predating the 20th century were retrieved. However, the trench was at the extreme end of the scheduled area and significant remains are much more likely to be encountered elsewhere in this area. <1>
