EHG3219 - Differential GPS survey of hut circle and other features, south of Murphy's Croft, Bonar Bridge

Technique(s)

Organisation

Highland Archaeology Services Ltd

Date

September 2007

Description

A rapid differential GPS survey was undertaken of a hut circle, clearance cairns and other features whilst an archaeologist was in the area conducting a watching brief on a site to the north. A Magellan Promark 3 unit was used in mobile mapping mode, with satellite-based differential correction provided by EGNOS. This typically provides sub-metre horizontal accuracy. The results were then corrected against the Ordnance Survey Mastermap data. Features recorded included the hut circle (MHG32600) as well as part of a field boundary wall and clearance cairns. <1> The original survey data is held by Highland Archaeology Services Ltd. <2>
