EHG3274 - Fieldwalking, recovery and study of lithic artefacts - Barr River, Morvern

Technique(s)

Organisation

Forestry Commission Scotland

Date

May - June 2010

Description

Mounds were created associated with the planting of broadleaf plantation, on the E facing slopes of Tom na Eildean, overlooking and to the W of the estuary of Barr River and Loch Teacuis. These acted as irregular test pits; 150 pieces of flint were collected from these test-pits and from the surrounding area, and submitted for specialist reporting, by Dr NyNyree Finlay at the University of Glasgow. This indicates the presence of a probable Mesolithic site at this location. Further work is planned to evaluate the extent of this Mesolithic site and assemblage. <1><2>
