EHG3565 - Watching brief, Craggan Cottage, Newhall Point, Balblair
Technique(s)
Organisation
Stuart Farrell
Date
July 2011
Description
A watching brief was conducted during groundworks for a new garage/studio with associated services. The work revealed no archaeological features or deposits, the area being heavily disturbed by tree roots and a modern drainage pipe. The topsoil and subsoil overlay a deposit of loose soft yellow-orange-brown sand natural with numerous rounded small to large stones, possibly an area of raised beach. A few fragments of 19th-century pottery were found in the topsoil but not retained. <1>
