EHG359 - Excavation - Kilphedir hut circle settlement

Four seasons of excavation on a hut circle settlement at Kilphedir were carried out by the Sutherland Field School under the auspices of the Education Committee of Sutherland County Council. Each of the seasons lasted a fortnight, with seasons in 1963-5 and in 1968. Five hut circles were investigated and in addition several trenches were excavated over other features in the area, including clearance cairns and what at first were thought to be boundary dykes but which proved to be clearance features. An analysis of the soil profiles, including palynological work, was also carried out. <1>
