EHG3639 - Trial trenching, Royal Golf Hotel, Dornoch
Technique(s)
Organisation
Highland Archaeology Services Ltd
Date
Nov-Dec 2011
Description
Trial trenching evaluation was undertaken in response to a request from the planning authority in advance of development of holiday accommodation within the grounds of the Royal Golf Hotel, Dornoch, Sutherland. The site consists of two areas divided by a road: The area to the west of this had been completely excavated in the past. This had destroyed all archaeological potential so this area was excluded from the trial trenching. The eastern area was former garden ground, within which a strip 10- 12m wide along the north side had been converted to a hard standing for holiday chalets (since removed). No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded apart from 20th and 21st century garden features and services. <1> <2>
