Description
Alba Archaeology (Highland) Ltd was commissioned by WSD Scotland Ltd in November 2010 to undertake an archaeological evaluation at Castlefield Heights, Fairways, Inverness as part of a project for new housing with associated access and services. A total of 17 trenches constituting 1223.2 m² or 5% of the development area (the area of house plots being 24224 m²) were excavated with the depth of topsoil and subsoil ranging from between 0.25 – 0.35m. The trenches were located in the area of the house plots. The road and the area around the site access had already been excavated some 10 years previously when a substation was constructed. Although no archaeological features or deposits of interest were revealed, a single pit of possibly modern date was exposed. The site of the housing lay in an area of a slight north-west facing slope. No recommendations for further archaeological work were proposed. <1>
