Description

Alba Archaeology (Highland) Ltd was commissioned in October 2012 to undertake an archaeological evaluation for a house with a separate garage and associated access to a site East of Taigh Chuileann, Kiltarlity. Trenching was conducted on areas where any new sub-surface ground works were to be carried out ie house plot, garage and road. Work on the site was excavated using a 12-tonne tracked back-acting machine with a 1.6m wide straight-edged bucket with surfaces being hand-cleaned where required. Two trenches amounting to 319.84 m² or c.40% of the development area were excavated. Topsoil was removed to an average depth of 0.35m across the site. Work revealed no archaeological features or deposits of interest, only one single modern ditch/field boundary to the north edge of development in the area of the proposed access road. No recommendations for further archaeological work were proposed. <1>
