EHG377 - Walkover survey - A836 Road realignment, Achany Glen, S of Lairg

A topographic survey was undertaken by The Central Excavation Unit in 1988 along a projected road transect in advance of road widening scheme for theA836 at Achany Glen, to the south of Lairg. Previous surveys by Curle and RCHAMS had detected the major settlement sites. A large number of less prominent settlement sites and relict field systems were recognised and recorded. In addition full vegetation and soil surveys were undertaken and a deep peat profile was sampled for pollen analysis. <1> The survey results (though not a detailed description of every site) was subsequently published in monograph following the resukts of the subsequent archaeological works. <2>
