In November 2005, Alba Archaeology Ltd was commissioned to complete an archaeological evaluation (see EHG1314) on the site of a proposed development at Academy St, Inverness. A small open area 6.50m x 6.95m, was cut into the hard standing (Tarmac) was excavated towards the south of site and was found to contain a well (truncated by later foundations) and the remains of a Culvert. Appropriate measures were taken to preserve the well in situ below the foundations level of the proposed development. It was concluded that no further archaeological work was necessary. <1> Note: When the site plan is rectified into GIS, the excavated area is some 2m longer and wider than the dimensions indicated in the text of the report.
