EHG3990 - Watching brief - Beinn Tharsuinn Windfarm
Technique(s)
Organisation
Glasgow University (GUARD)
Date
Apr-Sept 2005
Description
A watching brief was carried out by GUARD in 2005 as part of a condition on a planning application from Scottish Power to construct a windfarm and ancillary features, including an access track, on Beinn Tharsuinn. The brief had two main aims - the first to record any archaeological features found within the development site during ground-breaking, and the second to monitor works on the C19 Thomas Telford-built Strathrory bridge - the rebuilding of which was a further condition placed on Scottish Power by the Highland Council (see EHG4871). The watching brief took place within an area of 97ha. The immediate surrounding area is rich in prehistoric archaeology, but within the actual development area only one site was identified as prehistoric - an oval hut platform. Additional sites were medieval and post-medieval. <1>
