Technique(s)
Organisation
Ardnamurchan Transitions Project
Date
July-Aug 2006
Description
As part of the first season of work on the Ardnamurchan Transitions Project rapid walkover surveys were carried out at for the whole of the Swordale Bay area and Sanna Bay in the west of the Ardnamurchan peninsula in 2006 by members of the Ardnamurchan Transitions Project assisted by members of the Moidart Heritage Group. Within the limitations of access and health and safety, this included a landward strip of 100m and where practicable, an examination of the intertidal zone. In addition the area of hills between Portuairk and Grigadale to the south of Sanna Bay were also rapidly surveyed. Within the Swordale Bay area, selcted sites were identified for further investigation through test pitting and excavation. The surveys around Sanna Bay found little material, although several areas of buried land surfaces previously revealed by dune blowouts were re-visited. It was intended the area would be subject to more detailed examination in future seasons. <1>
