Description
A desk based assessment and walkover survey were conducted by Jacobs in 2007 to assess the potential impacts upon archaeology and cultural heritage resulting from the proposed construction of a new treatment plant and the proposed upgrading of pipework to and from the old treatment works at Scourie, Sutherland. The area of the new treatment plant and a 100m corridor along the route of the proposed pipework upgrade were walked. A total of twenty sites were identified within the study area although no new sites were recorded. Due to the nature of the works, it was perceived that any groundbreaking would avoid known sites and it was therefore considered that the overall impact on the situated within the proposed development corridor would be negligible. However, it was recognised that the potential for unknown buried archaeological sites and deposits was high and a programme of archaeological works would need to be put in place in relation to the proposed development. <1>
