Date

2013-2014

Description

An archaeological watching brief and topsoil strip were undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services at Moray Place, Nairn over the winter of 2013-14 during site preparation for the construction of a new house. The site was on a steep slope and had been very disturbed in the recent past. Monitoring included observing engineering testpits, of which two were open for inspection, with others having been backfilled. These showed up to 2m of made-up and disturbed ground. Subsequent visits included the monitoring of removal of rubble from two demolished buildings, the excavation of a further testpit, progress monitoring following landscaping works and a final visit during the stripping of topsoil for the footings of the new house. No features of an archaeological nature were identified during this work and no further fieldwork was proposed. <1>
