Date

Sept 2013

Description

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were carried out in 2013 in advance of two new mini hydro-electricity schemes at Peinvraid, near Uig, Skye. The work was undertaken to assess the nature and extent of any archaeology likely to be affected within the areas outlined for the proposed development works and in order to inform recommendations for the protection and management of any sites recovered. The survey identified a number of new archaeological sites including post-medieval farmsteads, shielings, boundary dykes, a stone-built bridge and associated track revetments, and an area of rig and furrow cultivation. Mitigation measures were proposed to safeguard the sites during the establishment of the proposed works. <1>
