Date

Description

A desk based assessment and preliminary walkover survey in advance of a proposed wind farm development scheme at Camster in Caithness was carried out by C Lowe of Headland Archaeology. The initial survey work was undertaken over the period of 6-8 August 2003, whilst subsequent fieldwork investigating the track layout was undertaken on the 2nd and 3rd of October 2003 and the 20th and 21st of January 2004. Fifty-seven sites were identified that may have been impacted by the development. Of these sites only 11 were within the development area and the area of proposed felling. The effect of the development on each of these sites was determined as negligible to minor. It was considered that the archaeological potential for the discovery of upstanding structures and other features was low, however it was recognised that there still remained potential for the discovery of subsurface finds and other features. Mitigation measures were proposed. <1>
