Organisation

Stuart Farrell

Date

Sept 2012

Description

A DBA and walkover survey were carried out by S Farrell in 2012 on an area of proposed forestry at Acheilidh Common Grazings, Rogart, Highland. Overall the area for proposed planting was on a west-facing slope of heather, grass, occasional outcrops of stone and areas of bog with natural knolls. Work revealed two unrecorded archaeological sites of a dyke with associated clearance cairns and a group of clearance cairns and lynchet of a field system. Almost all the archaeology was situated to the same height above sea-level with no indication of any archaeological activity on the higher slopes or close to the water’s edge of each loch. A number of recommendations were made in relation to the proposed scheme. <1>
