EHG4389 - Walkover survey - Kilbraur Wind Farm South Borrow Pit

Technique(s)

Organisation

Headland Archaeology Ltd

Date

April 2006

Description

The site of a potential borrow pit, part of the Kilbaraur Windfarm development, was subject to a walkover survey by Headland Archaeology prior to April 2006. The borrow pit was located in an area of mature woodland in the Ben Bhraggie plantation, some 2km to the NW of Golspie. There were no known sites within the area of the proposed borrow pit, although the old track next to the site appears on the c1873 OS Map. Just to the north, on the northern side of the burn was a small previous un-recorded stone structure. The structure was roughly circular and up to 2.5m in width. Although no other sites are known within the vicinity of the proposed area, the presence of old field dykes and an abandoned farmstead and building to the north-east indicate previous settlement activity in the area. <1>
