EHG4405 - Walkover survey - proposed Hydro-Electric Scheme, Kilbreck, Strathnaver

Technique(s)

Date

Oct 2013

Description

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey were carried out by Highland Archaeology Services in 2013 ahead of a proposed run-of-river hydro-electric scheme along the Klibreck Burn, near Altnaharra, Sutherland. The former township of Clebrig (Klibreck) is a Scheduled Monument, and the original proposed route cut through the protected area. Following an initial walk-over survey and informal discussion with Historic Scotland, the penstock route was adjusted by the client to avoid this and the revised route was then walked. Twenty five features were recorded over the two visits. Eight of these were within the scheduled area, and would now be avoided by the revised route. The new route would, however, still affect some features and some further fieldwork was recommended. <1>
