EHG4485 - Geotechnical survey - Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm (Development area)

Technique(s)

Organisation

Date

April - May 2010

Description

A total of five borehole samples were assessed from five locations across the proposed development area of Beatrice Wind Farm in the Moray Firth. The samples, provided by Furgo GeoConsulting Ltd., were assessed by Headland Archaeology to gauge whether the deposits contained any sediments of palaeoenvironmental potential, especially peats or sediments with high organic contents such as organic silts. After assessment the presence of fossil marine fauna and of organic bands in the stratigraphic record was established, indicating that there was some palaeoenvironmental potential within the recorded substrata. However, the absence of organic sediments such as peats also indicated that the potential for the presence of organic archaeological artefacts was low. The presence of residual flints and lithic artefacts located within the marne sediments remained a possibility. <1> <2> Note: GIS data provides an indication of location, awaiting further information.
