Description

Fifteen archaeological sites were recorded in a desk-based archaeological survey of part of Corrour Estate, near Spean Bridge, Lochaber, Highland. Most are associated with 19th and 20th century estate management, such as Corrour Old Lodge, Site 6, the fence, Site 4, the buildings at Lub a’ Choire Chreagaich, Site 9, the youth hostel, Site 11 and Corrour Station, Site 12. The present route of the track, Site 1, is presumably also a product of 19th century estate management , though it seems to follow the route of an old drove road. Other sites, such as the shieling at Clach an Fhuarain, Site 5, and the possible shieling settlement, Site 8, may also be relics of the pre-improvement period and the sheepfold, Site 2, and house at Lubruarie, Site 13, date to the sheep farming and deer forest phases of land economy. <1> After the DBA was completed, a walkover survey was carried out of the route.
