Description

A survey was carried out by the Central Excavation Unit (Scottish Development Department) in 1988 of five large areas of upland to the south and west of Kildonan, near Helmsdale, in Sutherland which were scheduled for afforestation in the near future. Archaeological monuments were known to exist within and around there areas. The survey was carried out to determine: which areas required preservation; which areas could be ploughed without further consideration; which areas would requre further investigation, including excavation, prior to afforestation. <1>
