Description

AOC Archaeology undertook an archaeological survey and evaluation at a new house site near Prestons Croft Roster in Occumster, Caithness (NGR ND 2666 3953) on the 13th of April 2015. The access road and house site had previously been stripped without archaeological monitoring. The ruins of two stone buildings were located on the site. Five trenches were excavated between the new house site and the ruinous buildings, in the proposed location of the septic services. The evaluation revealed two areas contained midden material and a small pit or post-hole of unknown significance. A full recording of the two building ruins on the site was completed. The locations of two building ruins to the east of the development were also recorded. <1>
