June 2015
Description
AOC Archaeology Group was commissioned by Capita and The Highland Council to conduct an archaeological evaluation prior to a proposed reconfiguration of canal park facilities at Highland Rugby Club (NGR: NH 6555 4346).
An initial evaluation was conducted, comprising 465 linear metres of evaluation trenching. The evaluation revealed a simple stratigraphic sequence of topsoil overlying a truncated plough-soil, this in-turn overlay drift geology of sands and gravels interspersed with pockets of colluvium. Significant archaeological features were present in the form of nine closely grouped pit features of probable prehistoric date. <1>
