Technique(s)
Organisation
AOC Archaeology Group
Date
March 2015
Description
This report details the results of an archaeological walkover survey of the development site for the Cogle Moss Wind Farm, located to the northeast of Watten in Caithness, which was undertaken on 16th March 2015. Four new archaeological sites were recorded, including a possible shieling, a possible structure, a quarry and a dyke. Previously identified post-medieval farmstead buildings at Heatherdeep were also surveyed. These farmsteads, fine examples of vernacular architecture, are located in very close proximity to the proposed access track. Mitigation measures have been recommended to ensure these sites are not compromised during development. <1>
The results of the survey were used to inform an Environmental Statement submitted as part of the planning application for the wind farm. <2>
