Description

Ten archaeological features were recorded during a desk-based and walkover survey of the area on the west side of the Allt a' Mhuillin, on the former township of Ranachan Strone, Barony of Ardnamurchan and Sunart. Of thsee, six were associated with 18th and 19th century agricultural practice, and one 19th century industrial site, one possible mediaeval of post mediaeval industrical site, several stray finds of prehistoric flints and a small area where human ativity could have taken place at any period from prehistoric times to the recent past. The walkover survey of the area was undertaken on 15th September, 2011 in dull but dry conditions, and the digital images were taken on 17th September, 2011 in bright, sunny conidtions. The survey was hampered by the rank vegetation, which included gorse, bracken, grasses and both planted and naturally referenated trees. The mounding for tree planting was also a hindrance to the survey work. <1>
