Description
The evaluation of two structures was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2016 prior to development works on the proposed site for a small hydro scheme along the Abhainn Srath Chrombuill near the Heights of Kinlochewe, Wester Ross. The evaluations were undertaken on 24th February 2016. Site 9b, interpreted as a clearance cairn during the walkover survey, was evaluated and concluded to comprise a mound of stone spread over the buried ground surface. This confirmed the initial interpretation. Site 10, interpreted as a small, well-built cairn during the walkover survey was also evaluated. It was found to comprise a slab-built chamber under a covering of loose stone. It contained the partial remains of a goat or sheep. The upright stone adjacent to the cairn was also concluded to have been erected as a marker stone for the site. <1>
