EHG4947 - Canna Renewable Energy Archaeological Evaluation and Recording Data Structure Report

An archaeological evaluation was carried out by The National Trust of Scotland in advance of the proposed construction by Canna Renewable Energy of wind turbines at Greod on Sanday and of solar panels at The Square on Canna. At Greod at total of 12 trial trenches were excavated by machine but apart from a small quantity of 19th and 20th century pottery, nothing of archaeological significance was located. At The Square three trial trenches were excavated by machine and once again no archaeological features or deposits were located. Given the proximity to the current farm there were more artefacts, mostly 19th and 20th century ceramics, recovered from these trenches. The only unusual find was a copper alloy coin found in the topsoil in Trench 3 at The Square. A drawn and photographic record was also made of the 1950s agricultural shed at the north end of the field of Greod on Sanday. <1>
