Description

This report details the findings of the archaeological evaluation carried out in advance of a new house build at Achow, Lybster, on behalf of Gavin Mackay. The evaluation was required to determine if any archaeological remains survived within the development area. Rhianrivach broch, Scheduled Monument 575, is located approximately 100m north of the site and as such the potential for significant buried archaeological remains was deemed to be quite high. Fieldwork was carried on the 13th of June 2016 by Sam Williamson. The evaluation indicated that a combination of farming activity and shallow bedrock has severely reduced the likelihood of any in situ archaeological deposits and structures surviving. <1>
