Date

2016

Description

A metal detector survey was carried out by Highland Archaeology Services in 2016 at Viewhill, Balloch near Inverness as part of a condition associated with a planning application (Demolition of agricultural buildings, formation of 16 house plots, upgrade of access and associated works). All signals were investigated and artefacts not of a clearly 21st century date were recovered. It was not possible to detect close to the west end were the track ran under an electric transformer box, which interfered with equipment. The 70m of track lying outwith the designated area were detectored using a nonferrous setting, so ferrous material would not be detected. No significant archaeology was found and no material relating to the battle was recovered. <1>
