Description
An archaeological excavation undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group on a proposed development site to the north of Dornoch (NGR: NH 79804 90342). In this phase of work two large trenches, Area A: 60m x 60m and Area B: 40m x 40m, were stripped of topsoil and the archaeological features uncovered were excavated.
In Area A a number of archaeological features were uncovered including stone lined storage pits, multiple hearths, a pallisaded enclosure, postholes, a shell midden and a huge circular cut feature. Finds recovered from these features included worked stone tools, animal bone and ceramic fragments.
In Area B two isolated pits were discovered in addition to the pit previously known from the evaluation phase. <1>
