Description
An archaeological desk-based study and subsequent controlled topsoil strip of a small area to the south-west of the Golspie Golf Clubhouse. in the parish of Golspie, Sutherland, was undertaken in January 2017. It was required by the Highland Council’s Historic Environment Team as a condition of Planning for Application Reference No 16/03579/FUL (see Appendix IV), submitted by the developer, Golspie Golf Club, in order to establish the extent of archaeological remains on the site.
The survey area comprises the proposed formalisation of the existing parking area, the construction of a Greenkeepers’ facilities and store building and a septic tank. Golspie Golf Clubhouse is situated approximately 1.5km to the south-west of the village of Golspie, in east Sutherland (see Appendix I).
No archaeological features/finds were discovered during the controlled topsoil strip, apart from 25 modern golf balls!
Please note that this report does not cover the installation of services, as the plan for these is unknown at present. <1>
