EHG5085 - Trial Trenching and monitoring - Ness Castle Phase 2

Technique(s)

Organisation

Highland Archaeology Services Ltd

Date

Aug 2017

Description

Archaeological trial trenching was carried out by Highland Archaeology Services Ltd in 2017 on behalf of Barratt Homes Scotland in advance of a new housing development at Ness Castle (Phase 2). Most of the site had been truncated by landscaping, but a single small feature in the NW of the site contained prehistoric pottery; it has been suggested that this was the remnant of a burial cist. A controlled topsoil strip was carried out on the area immediately adjacent to the feature but no other significant features were found. <1>
