Date

Description

Archaeological mitigation was required by Highland Council to minimise the heritage impact of development for a new house and associated services at The Steading, West Town of Duntelchaig, Farr. The archaeological project involved a controlled trial trenching to evaluate the footprint of the proposed structure and a representative sample of the site, in accordance with the requirements of Highland Council. The site lies in an area of high archaeological potential and the vicinity of two Scheduled Ancient Monuments; a chambered cairn and a group of five hut circles (SM11551 & SM11813) located just to the southwest of the site. An abandoned township (MHG 3638) is located just to the East. Six trenches were opened across the site including the footprint of the proposed house. All were found to be clear of any significant archaeological deposits or features. No further work is recommended. <1>
